Ty Hawkins is the Director of the School of Language and Literature and an Associate Professor of English at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). He joined UCA in 2019 as Chair of the Department of English. His research focuses on American literature and culture, particularly 20th and 21st century texts exploring intersections of literary form, national identity, violence, gender, and justice. Notable works include Just War Theory and Literary Studies (2021), co-authored with Dr. Andrew Kim, which spurred interdisciplinary scholarly engagement. His current monograph project, The New Southern Noir, examines contemporary crime writers addressing revanchism and ressentiment.
Dr. Hawkins holds a Ph.D. from Saint Louis University. His research spans ethical theory applied to literature, including Vietnam War narratives and postmodern American warfare. He has published extensively in journals like LIT: Literature Interpretation Theory, with a focus on authors such as Cormac McCarthy, Tim O’Brien, and Kevin Powers.
His academic contributions include interdisciplinary collaboration, directorial leadership, and pedagogical innovation in American literature studies.
