Stacey Peebles is an H. W. Stodghill, Jr. and Adele H. Stodghill Associate Professor of English and Chair of the English Department at Centre College, Kentucky. She also serves as Director of the Film Studies program and Editor of the Cormac McCarthy Journal. Her research focuses on war narratives, film adaptation, Westerns, and the works of Cormac McCarthy. Peebles holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. She has authored several books, including The War Comes with You: Enduring War in Life, Fiction, and Fantasy (2024) and Cormac McCarthy and Performance: Page, Stage, Screen (2017), and has been recognized with the Centre Scholar award (2014). She teaches courses in film, American literature, and war studies. Peebles is a leading scholar in McCarthy studies, serving as President of the Cormac McCarthy Society and editing key volumes on his work.
Her recent publications include analyses of contemporary war representation, female leadership in Star Wars, and McCarthy’s critical reception. She has contributed to academic journals such as Modern Fiction Studies and The Cambridge Companion to Literature of the American West. Her work bridges literature, film, and cultural studies, emphasizing the intersection of violence, performance, and narrative form.
Awards and honors include the Centre Scholar distinction, reflecting her scholarly contributions. She actively engages in public scholarship through podcasts like Reading McCarthy, where she discusses McCarthy’s novels, including Blood Meridian.
