Dr. John Vanderheide is an Associate Professor of English and Cultural Studies at Huron University College. His teaching emphasizes exploring human culture through historical and contemporary media, leveraging the college's small size to foster close student-professor relationships and enriching academic experiences through programs like the Centre for Undergraduate Research and Learning (CURL).
His research focuses on Contemporary Literary and Cultural Theory, Frankfurt School Critical Theory, Deleuze Studies, Affect Theory, Ecocriticism, and Cormac McCarthy Studies. He examines themes such as modernism, popular music, and the intersection of literature with social and environmental contexts.
Dr. Vanderheide’s recent scholarly work centers on Cormac McCarthy’s literary themes, including race, determinism, and existentialism, with publications spanning 2022–2024. His articles analyze McCarthy’s narrative techniques and philosophical underpinnings, reflecting his expertise in literary analysis and cultural critique.
