معرفی
Dr Julie Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Climate Science within the School of Geography and Planning at the University of Sheffield, UK. Her research focuses on reconstructing and understanding past climate variability in the Antarctic and Southern Hemisphere using historical observations, instrumental records, and climate model simulations.
Education:
- BSc in Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich
- PhD in Climatic Research Unit (CRU), UEA (1997)
Research Interests: Specializes in extending meteorological records through statistical reconstructions, particularly for regions with limited historical data. Key contributions include:
- Development of Southern Annular Mode (SAM) reconstructions
- Analysis of Antarctic climate variability using ice cores and reanalysis
- Methodology development using ships' logbooks for climate reconstruction
- Studies on climate change impacts on hydrology and glaciology
Scientific Awards:
- Leverhulme Fellowship (2018) for ships' logbook-based SAM reconstructions
Teaching: Delivers modules across undergraduate and postgraduate levels including Understanding the Climate System, Unlocking Past Environmental Changes, and Managing Climate Change. Serves as module convenor for several geography and environmental science courses.
