Julie E. Maybee serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Lehman College, City University of New York (CUNY), and concurrently directs the interdisciplinary Disability Studies Minor program.
Her academic credentials include:
- Ph.D. in Philosophy, Cornell University
Professor Maybee's research bridges Disability Studies, African philosophy, educational theory, critical race studies, and 19th century Continental thought. Her work centers on how socially constructed differences—such as disability and race—interact with spatiotemporal contexts to shape human identities, knowledge production, and lived experiences. She pioneered the Three-Body Approach to disability in her seminal著作 Making and Unmaking Disability and demystified Hegelian logic through visual pedagogy in Picturing Hegel. This transdisciplinary framework challenges traditional philosophical boundaries by integrating social theory with continental traditions.
