Julianna Pacheco is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Political Science at the University of Iowa. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University and completed postdoctoral training as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health and Society Scholar at the University of Michigan. Her research bridges political science and population health, focusing on how health influences political participation and representation. Current affiliations include a Carnegie Fellowship (2024–2026) and membership in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Interdisciplinary Research Leaders Program.

Research Interests: Pacheco’s work examines health-based inequalities in political voice, policy outcomes, and the intersection of health and political ideology. Her research has explored topics such as voter turnout disparities linked to health status, the dominance of healthier populations in policy-making, and the role of public opinion in health policy diffusion. She employs interdisciplinary methods, including quantitative analysis and policy feedback theory.
