Jeff Niederdeppe

Jeff Niederdeppe is the Liberty Hyde Bailey Professor in the Department of Communication at Cornell University and Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Development at the Brooks School. He also serves as Co-Director of the Cornell Center for Health Equity (CCHEq) and Director of the Cornell Health Communication Research Initiative (HCRI). His research focuses on mass media campaigns, strategic messaging, and news coverage influencing health behaviors and social policy, with a strong emphasis on achieving health equity.

Education: B.A. from the University of Arizona, M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Research Interests: Health communication strategies, tobacco control policies, public health messaging, health disparities, and the intersection of media and social policy. He has published over 175 peer-reviewed articles and secured funding from NIH, NSF, USDA, and RWJF.

Recent work examines cigarette package labeling policies, e-cigarette warning effectiveness, and structural drivers of health inequities. His studies often involve randomized trials and mixed-methods approaches to evaluate policy impacts.
