Laura Samuel is an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University, affiliated with the Center for Equity in Aging, Hopkins Housing & Health Collaborative, Johns Hopkins Center on Aging & Health, Johns Hopkins Disability Health Research Center, and the Roger C. Lipitz Center for Integrated Health Care. Her research focuses on advancing health equity for low-income individuals through two streams: the impact of financial strain and housing conditions on aging-related health disparities, and the health outcomes of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). She uses quantitative methods and has secured funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Her research trends indicate a consistent focus on social determinants of health, particularly financial stress, food insecurity, and policy interventions. Recent studies analyze racial disparities in SNAP access, pandemic-related financial challenges, and longitudinal effects of socioeconomic factors on cardiometabolic and inflammatory markers in aging populations.
