Julia Murphy is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication at James Madison University since 2022. She holds an M.A. in English from The Catholic University of America (2007), an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Moscow State Linguistic University (2000), and a B.S./MPharm in Pharmacy from First Moscow State Medical University (1993). Her professional focuses include first-year writing, rhetorical analysis, feminist literary approaches, and TESL/TEFL instruction. Her research integrates poetry, intercultural communication, and literary studies.
Dr. Murphy's recent publications emphasize haiku poetry and thematic explorations in Sylvia Plath studies, with works appearing in Moonstone Press anthologies and journals like The Lyric Magazine. She has presented on topics ranging from Sylvia Plath's legacy to Whitman's concept of the body. Her creative writing and scholarly work bridges literary traditions with contemporary issues.
Though currently listed without formal advisees, her teaching and research contributions align with JMU's emphasis on interdisciplinary writing education.
