Julia Gruson-Wood is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Guelph's Department of Family Relations & Applied Nutrition. Holding a PhD in Science & Technology Studies (York University, 2018), her work bridges gender, sexuality, and family dynamics with critical disability and health studies.
- Ph.D. in Science & Technology Studies (2018, York University)
- M.A. in Critical Disability Studies (2010, York University)
- B.A. in Cultural Studies (2007, Trent University)
Her research investigates autism clinical cultures, the gendered design of family-based health studies, and 2SLGBTQ+ parenting experiences. Using intersectionality and institutional ethnography frameworks, she explores how power structures shape health interventions and neurodiverse families.
Gruson-Wood's publications address autism governance, family meal contexts, and disability representation in horror media. Her SSHRC-funded projects examine postfeminist fatherhood and 2SLGBTQ+ family resilience amid political backlash.
Current affiliations include:
- Co-Principal Investigator for Neurodiversity Matters (SSHRC-funded autism infrastructure study)
- Collaborator on Enacting Autism Inclusion with Re*Vision
She employs arts-informed methods like multimedia storytelling to amplify marginalized voices in health research.
