Julia Grillmayr is a Visiting Professor of Cultural Studies at Art University Linz, with a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Vienna. Her research intersects science fiction studies and environmental humanities, focusing on speculative futures, posthumanism, and acoustic ecological research in the Lobau wetlands. She co-founded the Lobau Listening Comprehensions collective, which received the Theodor Körner Prize (2023) for its artistic-scientific fieldwork.

Her research interests span speculative fiction’s role in shaping ecological discourse, feminist science critique, and interdisciplinary practices merging sound art with environmental activism. Recent publications include works on eco-apocalyptic narratives and galactic grandmothers, reflecting her focus on non-human agency and relational ecologies.
Notable scientific awards include the Theodor Körner Prize (2023). She has designed podcast projects for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation and the International Research Center for Cultural Studies (IFK), and initiated the long-running Superscience Me radio series since 2018. Her teaching at Art University Linz covers courses like Solarpunk and other Science Fiction Futures and Climate Art & Activism, often involving collaborative, site-specific projects.
