Paul Ferstl is a writer and lecturer based in Vienna. He has been teaching Comparative Literature at the University of Vienna since 2006, with affiliations to the Department of European and Comparative Literature and Language Studies. His work spans literary research, fiction writing, and academic instruction in areas like Literary Research II and Advanced Research Techniques.
Ferstl earned degrees in Comparative Literature from the University of Vienna and Université libre de Bruxelles. His career includes civil service in Romania, work in restitution, academic publishing, and international provenance research. He has lived as a full-time writer in Vienna since 2022.
His research interests focus on contemporary Austrian literature, literary theory, and the intersection of fiction writing with historical and cultural contexts. Ferstl’s work has been supported by prestigious awards, including the Rimbaud-Spezialpreis, BMKOES stipendium, Theodor-Körner-Preis, and Elias-Canetti-Stipendium of Vienna.
