Dr. Juha Saatsi is an Associate Professor at the School of Philosophy, Religion, and History of Science, University of Leeds, since 2007. He specializes in philosophy of science, focusing on scientific realism, explanation, metaphysics of science, and philosophy of physics. His work intersects with the history of physics and explores non-causal explanations, laws of nature, and philosophical naturalism. He has directed research projects funded by AHRC, Templeton, and the British Academy, and held visiting fellowships globally. He serves on the executive committee of the British Society for the Philosophy of Science.
Dr. Saatsi holds a PhD in Philosophy and an MSc in Theoretical Physics. His research emphasizes the intersection of scientific realism and explanation, including recent projects on quantum realism, non-causal explanations, and the role of mathematics in scientific understanding. He is completing a monograph on scientific realism and the science of light.
His current research includes editing a handbook on scientific realism, a volume on non-causal explanations, and a project on quantum mechanics and realism. He actively mentors PhD students in philosophy of science and related areas, with current advisees Yihan Jiang and Anqi Wang. His work bridges epistemology, metaphysics, and physics, addressing core questions about scientific knowledge and progress.
