Dr. Judy C. Voelker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Philosophy at Northern Kentucky University (NKU), where she also serves as Director of the Museum of Anthropology. She specializes in Southeast Asian archaeology, with a focus on prehistoric ceramics, ethnoarchaeology, and women’s roles in prehistory. Her research spans the U.S. and Thailand, emphasizing ceramic production, trade networks, and community studies.

Research Interests: Dr. Voelker investigates ceramic technology, prehistoric ecology, and the intersection of archaeology with contemporary museum practices. She co-leads the Thailand Archaeometallurgy Project (TAP) and has conducted ethnoarchaeological fieldwork in northeast Thailand focusing on traditional pottery techniques. Her work integrates undergraduate research, civic engagement, and international education.
Publications & Grants: Her recent work includes exhibitions on Southeast Asian archaeology and peer-reviewed articles on copper production and ceramic analysis. She has secured grants from the Fulbright Foundation, American Council of Learned Societies, and Henry Luce Foundation to support student research and fieldwork.
Awards: Recognized for mentoring (2018 Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring) and international education leadership (2013 Sustained Excellence Award). She also contributes to civic roles like serving on Kentucky Academy of Science’s governing board (2009-2015).
Teaching & Outreach: Teaches courses ranging from archaeological theory to museum methods and oversees internships. Promotes student presentations at venues like Posters-at-the-Capitol and encourages digital pedagogy in anthropology education.
