Dr. Judith Hughes is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs & Research at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba. She holds a PhD in Social Work from the University of Toronto (2006), Master of Social Work from University of Toronto (2000), and Bachelor of Social Work from St. Thomas University (1996).
Her research focuses on intimate partner violence, professional responses to abuse disclosure, child protection systems, and women's experiences navigating legal and welfare systems. She specializes in qualitative methodologies including narrative and discourse analysis.
Dr. Hughes leads 'The Couples Project', a service/training/research program that provides relationship therapy to couples with a history of intimate partner violence. Her recent work explores how women indirectly disclose abuse to healthcare providers and examines child custody negotiations within child welfare systems.
