Jude Kong is an Assistant Professor at York University and Founding Director of the Africa-Canada Artificial Intelligence and Data Innovation Consortium (ACADIC). He leads the One Health Modelling Network (OMNI) Early Warning Signals Network and is affiliated with the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research. His research focuses on climate change impacts on disease transmission, leveraging AI to enhance pandemic preparedness in Africa and the Global South. Kong has received significant recognition, including the York Research Leader Award (2020) and was spotlighted as a Canadian Innovation Research Leader (2021) and Change Maker (2022).
His work spans interdisciplinary collaborations with over 52 researchers across 9 African countries, developing AI tools for disease containment. Notable projects include the Global South AI Network ($7.25M IDRC grant), which addresses ethical AI applications in low-resource settings. Kong emphasizes decolonizing AI by prioritizing local data and community involvement, exemplified by projects like early warning systems in Ethiopia and Ghana.
Key achievements include pioneering digital health surveillance in Senegal, combating TB stigma in India, and advancing mpox research with CIHR funding. His advocacy bridges academic and community needs, fostering health equity and sustainable solutions.
