Juanli Carrion is an Assistant Professor at The New School’s College of Performing Arts, specializing in community-engaged artistic practices addressing social and environmental justice. He co-founded the OSS Project, a nonprofit focused on empowering underrepresented groups through urban gardening initiatives. His work integrates art, design, and activism, exemplified by projects like Whit Your Voice, which received the 2023 Common Build Award. Carrion has exhibited globally with institutions such as the National Academy of Sciences, Art Institute of Chicago, and museums in Spain, Mexico, India, and Serbia.
He teaches courses like Resilient, Mutual Development and Creative Community Development, leading initiatives such as the Creative Community Development Graduate Minor. His research emphasizes participatory design, environmental justice, and strategic urban interventions. Beyond academia, Carrion has lectured at Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, and Pratt Institute, and collaborated with the Getty Foundation.
Notable achievements include the Van Alen Institute award for community engagement and extensive cross-disciplinary projects blending art with social advocacy. His work bridges artistic practice, education, and grassroots activism to foster equitable and sustainable communities.
