Her educational background includes an M.F.A. in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a B.F.A. in Communications Design from Pratt Institute. Barry's research examines design as an economic catalyst for communities, focusing on branding strategies for small businesses and nonprofit organizations. Her forthcoming book "Designing for Local Communities: A guide to freelancing and empowering groups in your neighborhood" (Bloomsbury, May 2025) synthesizes this work into practical frameworks.
Barry's contributions have earned significant recognition including Crain's Detroit Business 2020 Notable Woman in Design award, Oakland County Executive's 40 under 40 honor (2019), and UNESCO City of Design Delegate appointment. Her studio's award-winning projects span Graphis Design Annual, Indigo Design Awards, Creative Communication Awards, and Detroit Commerce Design Awards.
She actively disseminates scholarship through international conference presentations across Canada, Greece, Mexico, and Singapore, alongside publications in AIGA Eye on Design and Design & Culture. Her dual academic-practice role exemplifies integration of theoretical research with real-world community impact through Unsold Studio.
