Adrian Shirk is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Writing Department at Pratt Institute’s School of Liberal Arts & Sciences. She teaches writing workshops and oversees professional development initiatives for the BFA Writing program, including internship coordination. Her research explores American utopian experiments and intersections of gender, spirituality, and capitalism. Shirk holds a BFA (2011) and MFA (2014) in Creative Writing from Pratt Institute and the University of Wyoming, respectively.
Her work combines memoir with historical analysis, as seen in her award-winning books *And Your Daughters Shall Prophesy* (2017) and *Heaven is a Place on Earth* (2022). These works investigate marginalized spiritual figures and communal living movements. Her essays appear in *The Atlantic*, *Lit Hub*, and *Catapult*, focusing on topics like New Religious Movements, urban decay, and cultural nostalgia.
Shirk co-founded The Corresponding Society press and collaborates with The Party Theater and Driftless Literary Agency. She lives in the Catskills, actively involved in the artists’ cooperative The Mutual Aid Society. Her writing often bridges personal narrative with sociopolitical critique, offering fresh perspectives on communal identity and American cultural history.
