João Maio

João Maio is a dance artist, creative producer, and lecturer at the University of Leeds. He holds a First Class Honours BA in Contemporary Dance (2015) and an MA in Dance and Creative Enterprise (2017) from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD). His professional work includes performances with Rosie Kay Dance Company (e.g., MK Ultra tours), collaborations with Gracefool Collective, and creative producing roles at Open Source Arts. As an Independent Board Member at Leeds Dance Partnership, he contributes to arts management and cultural agency initiatives.

Research interests focus on interdisciplinary dance performance, creative enterprise strategies, and the intersection of artistry with institutional frameworks. His work emphasizes collaborative production methods and community engagement in contemporary dance contexts.

Leveraging his dual background in performance and arts management, Maio advises on touring logistics, rehearsal processes, and cultural policy advocacy. He has supported productions such as This Is Not A Wedding (Gracefool Collective) and maintains affiliations with NSCD’s alumni network.
