Joy Willig serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Sustainable Real Estate Development at Tulane University, teaching SRED 6210: Legal Issues in Real Estate Development since 2013. With 30 years of experience as an attorney and senior advisor, she specializes in real estate development finance, legal structuring, and negotiation for complex multi-family housing and mixed-use projects across New York City, New York state, and New Orleans.
Her academic credentials include a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University.
Professor Willig's professional focus bridges real estate law and development finance, emphasizing affordable housing initiatives and urban revitalization projects. Her expertise in legal problem-solving directly informs sustainable development frameworks, particularly in navigating regulatory challenges for mixed-income communities.
Prior to her academic role, she held executive positions including Senior Vice President and Counsel at New York state agencies, Advisor to the Housing Authority of New Orleans' Director of Real Estate Planning, and Development Consultant for HRI Properties. She remains actively engaged as a consultant for real estate firms and law practices in New York and New Orleans.
