Joy Cornthwaite is a Senior Lecturer and Secondary Programme Lead for the PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma in Education) at Bath Spa University's School of Education. She also serves as a tutor on the Secondary Maths PGCE programme and Module Co-Lead for the MA Educational Leadership programme.
- Academic Qualifications: BA (Hons) History, PGCE Secondary History, MSc Conservation Mathematics, Certificate in Education for Democratic Citizenship, NCSL Leading from the Middle, Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education
- Professional Memberships: Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
Her expertise spans teacher training and development, with significant contributions to the evaluation and revision of KS4 qualifications through roles with Pearson and OCR exam boards. She has served as a principal examiner for Functional Skills maths qualifications and collaborated on curriculum and assessment design for the Nile School’s Egypt programme.
- Research Interests: Mathematics education, SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), educational assessment, teacher professional development
Joy has participated in Department for Education (DfE) initiatives focused on CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and teacher retention, and has provided career mentorship to colleagues across the South West region.
