Gerard Elwood is a Lecturer in Politics and Society at Carlow College, St. Patrick’s, where he lectures on the Higher Diploma in Politics and Society programme. He concurrently teaches Politics & Society, History, and CSPE at Maynooth Post Primary School (Co. Kildare). His roles extend to Politics & Society Subject Associate with the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST), State Examinations Commission subject examiner, and co-facilitator of Carlow College’s Easter Politics & Society CPD workshop for teachers.
Elwood holds advanced qualifications including a BSc (Hons) in Social Science & Politics from London Metropolitan University, PGCEs in Politics/Sociology/History at secondary and tertiary levels from Goldsmiths University and the University of Greenwich, an PGDE in Educational Leadership from Maynooth University, and an M.Ed. in Teacher Education (Maynooth University).
His research focuses on teacher education, evidence-based pedagogy, and continuous professional development. He has authored Theories in Action – Key Thinker Student Guide (Folens) for Leaving Certificate Politics & Society.
