Josie Smith

Josie Smith, EdD, is a Teaching Professor and Associate Department Chair in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). Her academic roles include leading curriculum development and teacher training initiatives. She holds a BA in Elementary Education with endorsements in K-8 general education and K-12 special education, an M.Ed. in Educational Technology, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, and an EdD.

Her research interests focus on integrating technology into education, strategies for inclusive special education, and innovative teacher preparation. She has extensive experience in inner-city schools and developed technology curricula for high-poverty settings. As a Master Teacher for Project Lead The Way (PLTW), she trains educators in computer science and app development, and contributes to Verizon Innovative Learning Labs' STEM programs for students aged 8-12.

Josie has served on school leadership teams, including Building Leadership and Intervention Teams, and taught courses like 'Inquiry-Based Lesson Design' and 'Apprentice Teaching.' Her work emphasizes supporting future teachers through hands-on pedagogy and bridging gaps in special education and STEM accessibility.
