Dr. Perkuhn's research focuses on China's domestic political dynamics, particularly factionalism within the one-party system, and how these internal dynamics shape China's foreign policy behavior. Her work on Taiwan spans diplomatic relations, innovation policy, and Taiwan's international space. She also investigates China's expanding role in global governance, including its initiatives in the Arctic and Baltic regions. A significant portion of her recent research addresses the evolving relationship between China and Russia, analyzing how their "no limits" partnership functions in practice across different geopolitical contexts, from the Mediterranean to the Arctic.
Her publications reveal a consistent focus on the intersection of domestic politics and foreign policy, with particular attention to how China's internal political dynamics influence its international behavior. The articles demonstrate expertise across multiple geographical regions (Asia, Europe, Arctic) and policy domains (security, economics, culture, technology). Recent work shows increasing attention to Taiwan's position in global affairs amid growing pressure from China, as well as China's innovation policy and its implications for global health and technology governance.
