Dr. Guan-Yi Leu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs at the University of Mary Washington. Her research focuses on International Relations, International Political Economy, and China’s political and foreign policies, particularly in East Asia and the Taiwan-China-US triangle. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, alongside B.A. and M.A. degrees from National Taiwan University. Dr. Leu’s work explores China’s economic strategies, regional trade dynamics, and geopolitical challenges in the Asia-Pacific. She previously taught at National Cheng-Chi University in Taipei and was a visiting fellow at the Institute of Political Science, Academia Sinica. Her publications span journals like China Report and Pacific Affairs, and she has contributed chapters to books analyzing China’s political economy and strategic hedging policies.
Her scholarly activities emphasize the intersection of domestic politics and international economic policy, with a focus on how states navigate competing interests in globalized systems. Recent work includes analyses of post-CCP 20th Party Congress trade strategies and Taiwan’s hedging dilemmas amid U.S.-China competition.
