Dr. Josie Booth is a Senior Lecturer in Developmental Psychology at the University of Edinburgh's Moray House School of Education and Sport, affiliated with the Institute for Education, Community & Society (IECS). She holds a PhD from the University of Strathclyde and has held academic positions at the University of Dundee and the University of Strathclyde before joining Edinburgh in 2015. Her research focuses on cognitive development, physical activity, and health in children, particularly in neurodiverse populations like those with ADHD. She leads projects such as The Daily Mile initiative, now adopted globally by over 3 million children.
Dr. Booth’s research methodologies include randomized controlled trials, longitudinal data analysis, and systematic reviews. She is a Chartered Psychologist (BPS) and registered with the BPS Register of Qualifications in Test Use (RQTU). She currently co-edits journals like Frontiers and PLoS ONE, and supervises PhD students in areas like classroom interventions, yoga in schools, and cognition impacts of school deferral.
