David Booth is an Honorary Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex. He holds a D.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Birmingham and a Ph.D. in molecular neuroscience from the University of London. His extensive academic career includes positions at Yale University, Rockefeller University, and over 40 years at the University of Birmingham before returning to Sussex in 2013.
Booth's research centers on conative bio-social psychology, examining mental processing leading to intention formation. His work spans three main areas: personal mentation (information transfer across cognitive channels), personal wellbeing (measuring impacts of behavioral changes), and food choice (physiological and social influences on consumption). He employs an interdisciplinary '5E' approach: Enactive, Engaged, Encultured, Embodied, Extended cognition.
His recent publications focus on sensory perception, appetite regulation, wellbeing measurement, and the psychology of helping behavior. Booth maintains an extensive publication record with over 366 works spanning cognitive psychology, nutrition science, and behavioral neuroscience.
