Joshua Reznicow is the Director of Strings at Mount Mercy University, serving since Fall 2023. Previously, he held a 20+ year full-time position at the Linn-Mar School District, teaching middle and high school orchestras. He transitioned to high school teaching after initial middle school roles and has guest-directed honor orchestras nationally and internationally. His expertise spans music composition, performance, and pedagogy.
Education:
- BS in Music from University of Northern Iowa
- MAT from Coe College
Research & Creative Work: Joshua is a prolific composer with works published by TRN Music, Tempo Press, Kendor Music, and others. His compositions include pieces for orchestras, bands, and chamber ensembles, performed across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Notable works include American Sketches, featured in Teaching Music Through Performance in Orchestra.
Achievements:
- Grammy Signature Schools recognition for Linn-Mar ensembles
- Recipient of J.W. Pepper’s “Editor’s Choice” awards
Leadership & Service: Served on the Iowa String Teachers Association (ISTA) board, Secretary of Iowa Composer’s Forum (ICF), and Assistant Coordinator for Iowa All-State Music Festival.
Advising & Projects: Focuses on mentoring students through innovative music projects and curriculum development. His work emphasizes blending traditional and contemporary compositions in educational settings.
Labs/Teams: Oversees University Strings at Mount Mercy and previously led award-winning Linn-Mar orchestras.
