Daniel Kleinknecht is an Adjunct Professor of Music at Mount Mercy University, affiliated with the Department of Music within the School of Communication, Literature & Arts. He joined the institution in 1993 and previously taught at Bradley University while serving as Music Director for the Fort Dodge Area Symphony Orchestra. His educational background includes a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of Iowa, a Master of Music (MM) from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Music (BM) from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music.
His research and professional interests span choral music, jazz studies, and music performance. Kleinknecht directs the Mount Mercy University Choir and organizes annual spring break tours, which have featured performances in cities like New Orleans, New York, Montreal, and Chicago. He collaborates with Orchestra Iowa and the Mount Mercy Drama Department, and teaches a Creativity course in the Portal curriculum.
His work has been published by the American Choral Directors’ Association and the American Choral Review. Recognitions include listings in the International Who’s Who of Music and Musicians. Beyond academia, he has conducted performances for Iowa Public Radio and Television.
Kleinknecht’s leadership extends to organizing interdisciplinary projects, integrating music with drama and community outreach through his choir programs. His career reflects a blend of teaching, performance, and scholarly contributions to music education.
