Josh Gilliland

Dr. Josh Gilliland is a Professor in the Department of Environmental and Geosciences at Sam Houston State University (SHSU), affiliated with the College of Science & Engineering Technology. His research focuses on atmospheric characteristics, natural hazards, and geospatial technologies. He emphasizes integrating modern tools like remote sensing, UAS, and geospatial software into teaching to align with 21st-century educational demands.

His academic journey was inspired by childhood fascination with weather patterns in Ohio and North Carolina. He teaches courses in physical geography, meteorology, and disaster management, advocating for active-learning approaches. Research interests include tropospheric dynamics, spatial-temporal climate changes, and hazard risk assessment at local/state levels.
