Joseph Sun is a Professor at the Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences within Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing innate and adaptive lymphocyte responses to infections and cancer.
- PhD in Immunology from University of Washington (2005)
- Postdoc with Lewis Lanier at UCSF (2006-2010)
- Recruited to MSKCC in 2010
Research Interests: Sun investigates NK and CD8+ T cell biology, emphasizing immune memory, antiviral and antitumor immunity, and regulatory mechanisms preventing autoimmunity. His work explores epigenetic, transcriptional, and metabolic signals in lymphocyte responses.
Scientific Awards:
- Weill Cornell Graduate School Teaching and Mentoring Award (2022)
- American Cancer Society Research Scholar (2017)
- Burroughs Wellcome Fund Investigator in Infectious Disease (2016)
- Boyer Young Investigator Award (2015)
- Geoffrey Beene Junior Faculty Chair (2014)
Advising and Collaborations: Sun mentors graduate students and postdocs, with alumni securing prominent roles in academia, biotech, and healthcare. His lab collaborates with institutions like Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University.
