Joseph Savirimuthu is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Liverpool, affiliated with the School of Law and Social Justice under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research focuses on regulatory challenges of emerging technologies, particularly data protection, children’s digital rights, and healthcare data governance. He previously served as Director of Studies for Laureate and LLM programs.
Education: LL.B, LL.M, Distinction in PGCE (University of Liverpool, 2003), and a Distinction in Certificate in Internet Child Safety (2008).
Research Interests: Autonomous systems, data ethics, smart cities, and interdisciplinary collaboration with the Centre for Autonomous Systems Technology and Risk Institute.
Publications: Recent works include analyses of GDPR compliance in healthcare, blockchain governance, and the ethical implications of data-driven personalization in markets and politics. His scholarship spans legal critiques of technology and policy frameworks for emerging innovations.
Awards: Distinction awards in PGCE (2003) and Internet Child Safety (2008).
Teaching: Module coordinator for 'Privacy, Surveillance and the Law of Social Media' and 'Regulation of Emerging Technologies: Law, Ethics and Governance'.
Professional Activities: Member of IEEE’s Ethical AI Working Group, Internet Society’s Blockchain Group, and expert panels on children’s data standards. Editorial roles include the International Journal of Intellectual Property Management and Journal of International Commercial Law and Technology.
