Victoria Nash is the Director, Associate Professor, and Senior Policy Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), University of Oxford. Her work centers on governance challenges of digital technologies, particularly online safety, content moderation, and platform regulation, drawing from her background in political theory. She advises UK and EU policy bodies, including the UK Council on Internet Safety and the World Economic Forum’s Digital Safety Coalition. Nash holds a D.Phil. in Politics from Nuffield College, alongside M.Phil. and BA degrees from Oxford. Her research addresses children’s digital safety, democracy, ethics, and public policy, with a focus on policy implications of emerging technologies.
Education: D.Phil. in Politics (Nuffield College, Oxford, 1999), M.Phil. in Politics (Magdalen College, 1996), BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (Oxford, pre-1996).
Research Interests: Child safety, democracy, ethics, governance, inequality, public policy. Recent projects include analysis of the UK Online Safety Act, age verification policies, and digital risks to children. Her work bridges academia and policy, advocating for evidence-based regulation.
Advising & Grants: Supervised doctoral students and secured funding from UK taxpayers, Oak Foundation, and Google UK. Projects include Internet Filtering and Children’s Exposure to Harmful Content, and Strengthening Digital Democracy, addressing computational propaganda and platform governance.
Labs/Teams: OII’s Digital Ethics and Defence Technologies group; leads the OII’s Directorship and governance initiatives.
