Joseph R. Fauver, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Public Health. He joined UNMC in 2021 after postdoctoral research roles at Yale University School of Public Health and Washington University in St. Louis.
- PhD in Microbiology (2017), Colorado State University
- B.S. in Natural Sciences (2013), Peru State College
Dr. Fauver specializes in genomic epidemiology, pathogen genomics, and vector-borne diseases, with a focus on SARS-CoV-2 dynamics, neglected tropical diseases, and mosquito-borne viruses like Zika and Dengue. His work integrates genomic sequencing with public health strategies.
His research includes analyzing viral kinetics in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, developing diagnostic protocols (e.g., saliva-based SARS-CoV-2 sequencing), and studying the spread of variants through genomic surveillance. He has contributed to understanding the Omicron variant's emergence and immune evasion.
Dr. Fauver has collaborated with teams at Yale, Washington University, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands on pandemic response and surveillance projects. His work has been published in high-impact journals and preprint servers like medRxiv.
