Chantal Vogels is an Assistant Professor at the Yale School of Public Health within the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases. Her research focuses on arbovirology, virus evolution, and genomic surveillance of pathogens.
- Assistant Professor, Yale School of Public Health
- PhD in Entomology, Wageningen University & Research
- ORCID: 0000-0003-0027-6480
Dr. Vogels employs interdisciplinary approaches combining medical entomology, virology, and genomics to study how arthropod-borne viruses interact with their vectors and environments. Current projects examine:
- Zika Virus transmission dynamics
- West Nile Virus climate sensitivity
- Dengue Virus genomic evolution
- Powassan Virus tick-borne spread
- SARS-CoV-2 molecular diagnostics
Her recent publications include 15 articles from 2023-2025 spanning arbovirus ecology, genomic assay development, and climate change impacts. The Vogels Lab has received recognition through:
- COVID-19 Team Research Award (2022)
- Marina van Damme Fellowship (2019)
- Storm-van der Chijs Award (2017)
Dr. Vogels contributes to public health practice through:
- SalivaDirect SARS-CoV-2 testing platform
- Yale SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Initiative
- Multidisciplinary team leadership in arbovirus research
