Andrew D. Haddow is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Kennesaw State University (KSU), within the College of Science and Mathematics. His research focuses on arbovirology, medical entomology, ecology, epidemiology, public health, biosecurity, and One Health. He investigates mechanisms of arbovirus emergence, spillover events, and transmission dynamics to develop mitigation strategies.
Dr. Haddow holds a PhD in Medical Entomology from the University of Tennessee, an MSc in Environmental Sciences from Johns Hopkins University, and a BS in Biology and Environmental Science from Drury University. He has completed a postdoctoral fellowship in arbovirology at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
- Teaching: Courses include Virology, Parasitology, and specialized directed studies in vector-borne disease surveillance and laboratory techniques.
- Students: Mentors graduate and undergraduate students in research projects involving field and lab studies on arboviruses.
His lab emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, combining fieldwork and molecular biology to study arthropod-borne viruses. Recent work includes studies on Zika virus persistence, Ebola virus stability, and SARS-CoV-2 transmission dynamics.
