Joseph Prestwich is a Teaching Associate in German at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics, University of Cambridge. He earned a PhD in German and Theatre and Performance Studies from King’s College London in 2022 after training as an actor at the Guildford School of Acting.

His research and teaching focus on:
- German-language Theatre (18th century to present)
- Bertolt Brecht and his theatrical methodologies
- Translation Studies with emphasis on theatre in translation
- Anglo-German cultural exchange and European theatre networks
- Turkish-German literature and film intersections
Recent publications examine transnational performance networks and arts education practices. Joseph also leads practice-based research on Goethe’s theatrical approaches and collaborates with ShakeItUp Theatre (Arts Council England) and Young Vic Theatre’s INNOVATE project (2021–2023).
