Dr. Doriane Zerka is an Associate Professor in Medieval German Literature at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics, concurrently serving as Tutor and Equalities Fellow at St Catharine's College. She holds a BA in German and Hispanic Studies from Queen Mary University of London, an MPhil in European Literature and Culture from Cambridge, and a PhD in German and Hispanic Studies from King's College London.
Her research employs comparative, transcultural, and transtemporal frameworks to analyze medieval German and Iberian literature. Primary interests include:
- Postcolonial reinterpretations of medieval Iberia
- Network theory applications to literary mobility
- Feminist/gender perspectives in medieval texts
- Modern theoretical dialogues with premodern sources
Publications consistently explore identity construction, cross-cultural exchange, and gender dynamics in medieval epics and poetry, utilizing methodologies from Orientalism to spatial analysis. Her 2023 monograph examines Iberian representations in German medieval literature.
