Joseph McLaughlin is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Ohio University's College of Arts and Sciences, where he teaches a wide range of courses in British and global literature, literary theory, and the history of the book. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Duke University and an A.B. from Georgetown University.
His research centers on Victorian Literature and Postcolonial Literature & Theory, with significant contributions to urban studies, ecological criticism, and adaptations of Lewis Carroll’s Alice books. He is co-editor of the Series in Victorian Studies at Ohio University Press.
His recent publications span interdisciplinary topics including Cold War adaptations of children’s literature, energy in the Victorian novel, and the cultural geography of London. His teaching includes courses such as British Literature since 1900, Colonial and Postcolonial Ecologies, and History of Books and Printing.
Joseph McLaughlin has presented at major international conferences including the North American Victorian Studies Conference and the International Nineteenth Century Studies Conference. His scholarly work reflects a strong engagement with interdisciplinary methodologies, visual culture, and the evolving role of literature in historical and global contexts.
