Joseph Haigh is a Teaching Fellow in US Politics and Security Studies at the University of Warwick’s Department of Politics and International Studies. He holds a PhD, MA, and BA in Politics and International Studies from Warwick. His research explores the political psychology of vicarious militarism, focusing on how individuals and groups leverage historical military connections to address existential anxieties and assert national identity. His work bridges Constructivist International Relations, Critical Military Studies, and Ontological Security Studies.

Research interests center on the intersection of memory, militarism, and identity, particularly in British national discourse. He examines how vicarious claims to military heritage shape political claims and ontological security. Recent projects include studies on Afghanistan war narratives and pandemic-era heroism.
Awards include the ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship (£91,711) and the Political Studies Association Shirin M. Rai Prize for best PhD thesis in International Relations. He teaches 'United States Foreign Policy' and advises on dissertations related to security studies, memory politics, and ontological security.
