Her research explores the intersections of gender, militarization, and political identity. Key themes include the role of women in war, the securitization of history, and the construction of heroic military masculinity. She investigates how affect, humor, and cultural symbols are mobilized in both protest and state propaganda, especially in Russia and Ukraine. Her work also examines the economic insecurities faced by women in conflict zones and the implications of international financial institutions’ policies.
The most recent publications reflect a deep engagement with Russia’s war in Ukraine, analyzing militarization of children, gendered impacts of conflict, and the symbolic framing of war through heroism and nostalgia. Her research spans interdisciplinary approaches, drawing from political science, gender studies, cultural studies, and international political economy.
