Professor Joseph H. M. Tah is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment at Oxford Brookes University. His roles include leading the School of Architecture, School of Arts, School of the Built Environment, and School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. He previously held positions such as Founding Head of the School of the Built Environment and Head of the Department of Real Estate and Construction. His academic career spans over three decades, focusing on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of civil engineering, construction management, computer science, and artificial intelligence.
Education: BSc(Hons) in Civil Engineering from Birmingham University, followed by MSc and PhD in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from Loughborough University.
Research interests include sustainable construction, smart cities, IoT, AI applications in construction, and project management. Over 180 publications and a co-authored book on strategic management in international construction reflect his impactful contributions. He has secured significant research funding from EPSRC, EC, Innovate UK, and others.
Engaged in knowledge transfer and consultancy, re-engineering organizational processes and advancing ICT innovations in construction. Active in professional roles: Board of Trustees of Oxford Preservation Trust, member of Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s Clean Growth sub-group, and Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Supervised numerous PhD students and research associates, contributing to academic and industry advancements. Leads initiatives in digital twins, energy management, and sustainable building technologies.
