Professor Joe Tah is the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation and Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Design and the Environment at Oxford Brookes University. His academic career spans over three decades, focusing on construction management, civil engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence. He leads a faculty encompassing Architecture, Arts, the Built Environment, and Engineering/Computing. Prior roles include Founding Head of the School of the Built Environment and Associate Dean at Oxford Brookes, as well as professorial positions at the University of Salford and London South Bank University.
Education: BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering (Birmingham University), MSc and PhD in Civil Engineering and Construction Management (Loughborough University). Research interests include sustainable construction, BIM, RFID technologies, and knowledge management systems. He has secured over £10M in research funding, leading projects on sustainable urban planning, low-impact building design, and digital twin applications.
Research highlights include the BIM-enabled Collaborative Platform for Innovative Low Impact School Procurement (EPSRC/Innovate UK-funded) and the SURegen project on sustainable urban regeneration (EPSRC). His work also addresses post-conflict reconstruction (e.g., Mosul City) and climate resilience in construction supply chains.
Professional roles include Board Trustee at Oxford Preservation Trust and membership in the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s Clean Growth sub-group. Awards include Fellowships from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) and Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB).
