Caroline Gumble is a Visiting Professor of Global Engagement and Transformation in the Built Environment at Loughborough University’s School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering. She concurrently serves as CEO of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), leading its global transformation efforts since 2019. Her roles include Director of the Board of Trustees for the Institute of Export & International Trade and Trustee of the CIOB’s benevolent fund (CIOB Assist).
Her research and professional focus centers on leveraging construction as a catalyst for positive societal change, emphasizing equity initiatives (EDI), social mobility, worker welfare, and sustainable practices within the built environment sector. Under her leadership, CIOB prioritizes cultural shifts in diversity, environmental quality, and ethical labor practices.
Prof. Gumble’s career includes extensive business leadership in automotive and capital goods sectors, along with prior executive roles at EEF Ltd/Make UK. She drives cross-sector collaboration to address systemic challenges in global construction industries while advocating for industry-wide ethical standards and innovation.
