Chris Gorse is Professor of Construction Engineering and Management at Loughborough University with visiting professorships at the University of Suffolk (Project and Construction Management) and CUT South Africa (Lean Construction). He chairs the CIOB Sustainability Panel and Policy Forum and co-founded the Building Performance Network, bringing nearly 30 years of research experience in sustainable built environments.
His research centers on sustainable construction engineering, building performance analytics, and the health impacts of built environments. He pioneers digital monitoring systems for smart buildings, investigates air quality-comfort relationships, and develops interventions for occupant wellbeing. Current work focuses on micro-to-city-scale collaborations with NHS trusts, educational estates, and housing providers to optimize environmental health outcomes.
Gorse has directed major UK government projects through BEIS and Innovate UK, served on the REF 2021 Sub-Panel 13 for Architecture/Built Environment, and contributed to Yorkshire/Humber Climate Change Research and Leeds Climate Change Commission initiatives, establishing him as a leading authority in construction sustainability and performance.
