Andy Dodson is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in the Department of Science and Engineering at Solent University. He joined the institution in 2020, progressing to permanent Course Leader in 2022, overseeing programs such as the BSc (Hons) Construction Management and HNC Quantity Surveying. His professional background includes a career in the British Army (1997–2017) spanning roles like project management, facilities management, and building surveying. He transitioned to academia post-Army, working at the University College of Estate Management before joining Solent. Andy holds a first-class honours degree in Construction Management from the University of Reading and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Research Interests: Andy’s PhD research at Solent focuses on stakeholder conflict dynamics in the management and use of UK reedbeds. His broader interests include sustainable construction practices, project management methodologies, and the integration of technical and managerial competencies in built environment disciplines. He actively explores how interdisciplinary perspectives can mitigate conflicts in environmental and infrastructure projects.
Professional Activities: Andy runs an external verification service for the CIOB’s Professional Review process, serves as an External Examiner for Birmingham City University, and contributes to the CIOB Wessex Hub. He has held roles such as Deputy Module Leader for the Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship Program and Programme Delivery Manager, demonstrating his commitment to applied learning and industry collaboration.
Teaching and Leadership: Andy leads modules on Technology of Buildings, Construction Practice, and Strategic Construction Management. He supervises dissertations and chairs Solent’s Academic Misconduct Committee. His teaching emphasizes practical skills and industry-relevant knowledge, reflected in his course leadership across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
