Professor Carrie de Silva is an Honorary Professor of Real Estate Practice Law at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU). She holds an LlB (Hons), MA, PGCE, ATT, and FHEA qualifications. Her career spans corporate taxation, legal education, and consulting in real estate and agricultural law. She has served as a legal consultant for Sava courses and ASET, and held leadership roles including Chair of the British Federation of Women Graduates Scholarship Trust and Board Member of the Centre for Equine Law and Policy at the University of Buckingham.
Her research focuses on legal frameworks governing land and property, professional negligence, civil/criminal liability, and historical studies of agriculture and gender/ethnicity in professions. Notable projects include documenting early women chartered surveyors, minority ethnic lawyers from Ceylon/Sri Lanka, and street names honoring women. She also explores gender imbalances in senior professional roles.
Publications include books on equine law, health and safety, and residential valuation, alongside peer-reviewed articles in journals like the Denning Law Journal and International Journal of Law in the Built Environment. Her work often bridges legal practice and historical inquiry, with a focus on marginalized voices in professional histories.
Professional contributions include trustee roles for the Sybil Campbell Collection Trust and the British Federation of Women Graduates Scholarship Trust. She has authored Oxford DNB entries on pioneers like Irene Barclay and Mary Glynne, and co-edited major textbooks such as Galbraith’s Construction and Land Management Law.
