Professor Nancy McLaughlin is the Robert W. Swenson Professor of Law at the University of Utah's S.J. Quinney College of Law. She specializes in conservation easements, tax incentives, nonprofit governance, and trusts & estates law. She holds academic roles since 2005, including Associate Dean for Faculty Research (2009–2012). Her expertise is national, with over 30 publications and leadership in organizations like the American Law Institute and Uniform Law Commission.
Education: JD from University of Virginia School of Law, BS (Honors) in Psychology from University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Research focuses on conservation easement durability, tax law implications, and charity regulations. Recent work includes analyzing Florida's easement permanence, federal tax reforms, and nonprofit governance. She lectures annually via 'Trying Times: Conservation Easements and Federal Tax Law.'
Her 15+ articles address legal frameworks, valuation challenges, and enforcement mechanisms for conservation easements. Key themes include perpetuity standards, IRS compliance, and public subsidy protection.
