Dr Joseph Ford is a Senior Lecturer in French Studies at the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies (ILCS) within the School of Advanced Study, University of London. He specializes in contemporary French and Francophone literature, particularly focusing on Algeria and the postcolonial context. His research explores themes such as cultural memory, postcolonialism, and world literature, with a strong emphasis on decolonial theory and multilingual pedagogy. Ford has held academic positions at Durham University, Université Paris-Est, and the University of Leeds. He currently co-edits the Journal of Romance Studies and leads initiatives like the Decolonise MFL Curriculum group. His monograph Writing the Black Decade (2021) analyzes Francophone Algerian literature’s engagement with conflict and critique. Ford’s work bridges academic scholarship and public engagement, advocating for transformative approaches in language education and cultural studies.

Research Interests: Postcolonialism, cultural memory, Francophone Algerian literature, world literature, decolonial pedagogy, and multilingualism. He has published extensively on writers like Kaouther Adimi, Mustapha Benfodil, and Salim Bachi, and co-edited volumes on historical responsibility and memory studies.
